I know you are struggling right now, and I am writing this to let you know I hear you, I see you, and I care.
You are desperate for a friend. An answer. But you are spending all your time searching outside of yourself. The answer you seek, the friend you desire is you, and within you. You have all you need already.
What I would do for you to stop grasping for guidance and instead go within and listen to your inner guidance.
You asked me “what if it doesn’t get better” and I replied “it will”, and you look at me like ‘how do you know?!’ Through your tears, you can’t see straight, everything’s blurry. But I can. I see your future, your tender heart and fighting spirit. You are blossoming into a beautiful young woman who I am proud to call my daughter.
5 things I love about you:
♥ Your vulnerability – I truly admire how vulnerable you are with the ones you love. You give us the strength to be vulnerable right back, and for that, I love you.
♥ Your green eyes – Because they’re hypnotic, striking and oh so pretty.
♥ Your love for your siblings – The love you show Summer and Cody melts my heart. You are destined to be a mother.
♥ Your bossiness – Being bossy is a ‘fault’ you’ve been trying to overcome since you were little, but i think you’re just born to be a very powerful women who knows exactly what she wants. You go girl!
♥ Your love for books – Watching you immersed in a book is beautiful because you look at peace, and I love seeing you that way.
I know right now relationships seem like the most important thing, “But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself” (Carrie Bradshaw)
You will get through this, and you will be stronger for it. Think of the things you’ve already been through. The divorce of your parents, the death of your beloved Pop, moving from Melbourne to a small country town in S.A, your first heart-break, job interviews and algebra.
Above all else what I want you to know is:
- You are NOT alone
- You are Worthy and you are Enough.
- This too shall pass. Life has a miraculous way of working out.
“Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” A.A. Milne
I love you,
Thank-you for letting me dedicate this weeks blog post to a letter to my step daughter.
